TaylorMade has finally followed up their putter line with the new Ghost Spider. In 2008 they introduced the Monza Spider putter. This succession putter is a unique all white design that combines forgiveness and alignment. If you think this putter already looks familiar you were probably watching last weekends U.S. Open. Runner up Jason Day used a Tour prototype version of this putter. Developed by another well known Tour professional and TaylorMade staffer, Dave Stockton.

The Ghost Spider has two adjustable weights in the back corners of the head. These moveable weights contribute to the highest MOI of any TaylorMade putter to date. Another added benefit of this high MOI is that this putter is more resistant to off-center hits.

Distinctive to the Spider line the steel frame head has more weight in the back to increase MOI. The adjustability of the putter allows you to make the head heavier or lighter by changing the weight.

The face of the putter includes TaylorMade’s Pure Roll insert, which is found in most of their putters. Proven to help promote a forward spin and enhanced, feel and sound.

Why did TaylorMade produce another white club? The white clubhead allows players to see a sharp distinction between the club and the putting surface permitting a golfer to square up the face at address. As long as we are talking about alignment the Ghost Spider uses that as one of their crowning product features. Two golf ball-sized ovals and alignment line are found running along the face to the back of the putter.

TaylorMade created two versions one with a single-bend shaft and the other with a straight shaft that goes directly into the center of the face. The Ghost Spider putter will be available in golf stores this summer with a release date of: 7/5

It looks like Tiger Woods will be skipping out on yet another tournament. He announced today over Twitter that in order to be healthy in the long run he will need to rest now. Stemming from an achilles tendon injury and a bad knee which has kept him away from the Players tournament as well as the Memorial this past weekend.

For those who didn’t qualify already for the Open, yesterday was their chance to fill one of those extra 63 spots during a qualifying event held in 11 different states. It was a surprising outcome considering that 2011 tournament winners didn’t even make the cut including Jhoatthan Vegas the Bob Hope winner.

This year’s tournament will be held at the Congressional Country Club in Maryland. As promised by this tournament it has already proven to be a tough course. Even defending champion Graeme McDowell has said that they made it every bit as rough as they promised.

For those of you who can’t get enough of Jack Nicklaus or have the urge to watch every golf tournament live (you think finding it on sportscenter to be yesterdays new) here are the times you can find it live streaming on your computer from the PGA Tour Live Feed

Golfers young and old made victories this weekend.

  • Keegan Bradley picked up his first PGA Tour Title win at the HP Byron Nelson Championship
  • Tom Watson become the 2nd oldest golfer to to win a major championship when he made  a 3 foot birdie putt at the Senior PGA Championship.
  • Luke Donald won not only his 5th career European Tour win at the BMA PGA Championship but also moved himself into the world’s number one golf title according to the official world golf rankings.

As if being in high school wasn’t hard enough Jordan Spieth has set out to make records and stand in the history books. He may be 17 but that doesn’t mean this is his first go around at a PGA Tour event as an amateur. Last year he was the 6th youngest player to make the cut at a Tour event, this year he aims to go even farther than that. Ending Friday’s round he is only 5 strokes off leader Ryan Palmer. Spieth went two rounds under par at 2 under 68 and 69. It’s going to be an interesting tournament to watch he says he is confident enough to win according to the Tour Report. If he does win he will be the youngest winner in 111 years. Practicing at this course for months he is well prepared for the challenges of the weekend coming up. With a fanbase in Texas cheering him on he is ready to make history at the Byron Nelson Championship. What do you think can he pull it off?

These days it seems like golf is clearly expanding globally. For the first time ever North Korea has an Amateur event, new venues and new countries are always being added to the repertoire of places to play. The PGA Tour is taking a backseat to the European Tour this weekend. The Byron Nelson field of players doesn’t quiet have the star power or power players that the BMW European PGA Championship does. With more top ranked players and a lot more hype the BMW Championship is overshadowing the Byron Nelson even here in the U.S. This conundrum has both positives and negatives. Positives include a much winder audience and respect for golf. Negative is that PGA tournaments here in the US may not always bring the valor that another tournaments does that some weekend.
